After reaching an agreement with the President of the United States, Donald Trump, to postpone tariffs on Mexico until April 2, President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that she will maintain the call to attend the Zócalo next Sunday, March 9. Following a call with Trump, in which they agreed to suspend the 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico, Sheinbaum mentioned that Sunday’s event will transform into a "festival" due to the success of the agreement. "I will announce the achievement this agreement represents between the presidents of Mexico and the U.S. and between our peoples, and we will invite musical groups to celebrate with the people of Mexico," Sheinbaum stated during a meeting in the Treasury Hall of the National Palace on Thursday. She also revealed that she will talk about the election for the Judiciary that is scheduled for Sunday, June 1, during the event at the Zócalo, which will start at 12:00 PM. Sheinbaum mentioned that she will reveal the actions that Mexico will take, both tariff and non-tariff, in response to the economic measures from the United States. It is expected that 31 governors from across the country, including the Head of Government of Mexico City, who had already confirmed their presence before the agreement with Trump to postpone the tariffs, will attend the assembly. Among those confirmed is the President of the Senate Board, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, who expects proposals aligned with sovereignty and national independence. About 300 businesspeople will also attend to support the president. On the other hand, the PRI Committee does not plan to attend the Zócalo on Sunday, as confirmed by Alejandro Moreno, citing a lack of knowledge about the strategy to be presented by Sheinbaum. In contrast, the Governor of Nuevo León from Movimiento Ciudadano, Samuel García, assured his attendance at the event and stated that he will support the president's decisions regarding the tariffs imposed by the U.S. Mauricio Kuri and Tere Jiménez, PAN governors of Querétaro and Aguascalientes, respectively, have confirmed their presence at the event. Kuri highlighted the importance of national unity to overcome the country's challenges and mentioned his attendance at the National Council of his party before the meeting at the Zócalo. Attendance of other PAN governors at the event led by Sheinbaum has not yet been confirmed.
